“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” ― G.K. Chesterton

The Rick Herrema Foundation (RHF) strengthens relationships and builds community for The Military Family through fun, quality activities. "Family" is the sphere of relationships the solider calls home, be it friends, siblings, spouses and/or children.

Located minutes from Fort Bragg, NC - home of the Airborne and Special Operations - the 50-acre campus is open daily and is free for The Military Family.

Rick's Place Visitor Policy:

Rick's Place is open dawn to dusk for military families and single soldiers.

We welcome single soldiers and military families to our peaceful campus. Please enjoy the fields, dawn to dusk. See if you can spot the red-tailed hawk that lives in our woods or the many birds, rabbits and other creatures of our fields and trees. Enjoy the fresh smell of honeysuckle and magnolia or stroll over to our wetlands to check out the wildlife.

We are expanding this fall with new construction. For now, enjoy the beauty of the land. Our place includes a playground, gardens, benches, pergolas and beautiful grounds. We have a caretaker's house and a couple of tool and supply sheds on the property. We currently have two port-o-potties and a spigot by our garden for water for public use. You may even pick vegetables from our garden when they're ripe.

Please keep Rick's Place beautiful. Trash and recycling cans are located at the entrance to 5572 Shenandoah Drive - bagged trash only. We are an alcohol-free and tobacco-free place with exceptions when  permitted by our Foundation's Board.

If you bring a dog, please keep it on a leash no longer than six feet if others are around (and please clean up after it!).

We look forward to seeing you and your loved ones soon!

Our Future!

In the not so distant future, Rick's Place will offer horseback riding, lake fishing, family gardening plots, an indoor/ outdoor playground, a splash pad, nature trails and many other exciting activities - all designed to achieve RHF’s mission by providing special memories, activities and experiences for families and single soldiers in order to strengthen their relationships. This atmosphere of relaxation and rejuvenation at Rick’s Place honors the ongoing sacrifice that the “silent majority” of our military families make as they continue to deploy in defense of our nation.
